Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) — Tanis excavation site

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas chose Tanis as the fictional location of their dig site in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), where Indiana Jones searches for the Ark of the Covenant in the Well of Souls. The film uses real Egyptological knowledge — the city of Tanis genuinely exists and contains the most important intact royal burials found since Tutankhamun, discovered by Pierre Montet in 1939.
