Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette (2006) was granted rare permission to film inside the Palace of Versailles, dressing the royal apartments for a candy-coloured portrait of the doomed queen. The seventeenth-century palace of Louis XIV, the stage of the Bourbon court, plays itself.
