L’arte di salvare l’arte. Frammenti di storia d’Italia
From 5 May to 14 July 2019, the Quirinale Palace hosted, in the rooms of the Palazzina Gregoriana, the exhibition L’arte di salvare l’arte (“The Art of Saving Art”) — Frammenti di storia d’Italia (“Fragments of Italian History”) — curated by Professor Francesco Buranelli.
The show marked the 50th anniversary of the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, the specialist unit established on 3 May 1969 to fight crimes against Italy’s historic and artistic heritage.
On display were objects stolen from churches, museums, archaeological sites, libraries and archives, alongside the story of their recovery, together with works salvaged from the areas of central Italy struck by the earthquakes of 2016. Specialist staff guided visitors through the exhibition and its online database.
