Ron Howard’s Inferno (2016), the third Robert Langdon thriller adapted from Dan Brown, sends Tom Hanks through Istanbul to the great mosque of Hagia Sophia. The sixth-century church-turned-mosque, crowned by its colossal floating dome, supplies the film’s climax in a building that has anchored the city’s skyline for fifteen centuries.
