Häuser schaun Sweet Sixteen: Auster Sport- und Wellnessbad (HDA Graz)

The Auster turns sixteen, and HDA — Haus der Architektur returns to it with a guided tour. The Graz sport and wellness baths were built by fasch&fuchs.architekten, and the nickname is literal: the building reads as an oyster held slightly open. A wide opening towards the outdoor area floods the interior with light and lets inside and outside run into each other, while the protective shell gathers pools, wellness rooms and a dense technical infrastructure into one layered space.

The tour is timed for the end of the open-air swimming season, when the building is quiet enough to be read as architecture. It looks at the spatial organisation, at the machinery that keeps the place running all year, and at the people who operate it — how architecture, use and technical infrastructure actually mesh. Häuser schaun Sweet Sixteen continues the series that opened at the MUMUTH, and HDA runs this edition with Freizeit Graz GmbH and STO.
