Death Anniversary: Giuseppe Avitrano — March 19, 1756
He died in Naples on 19 March 1756, after serving for over sixty years in the royal court orchestra of the Real Cappella Napoletana, where he was appointed court violinist in 1695. His published trio sonatas, op. 3, titled Sonate a quattro and dedicated to the Duke of Marigliano, represent a high point of the early Neapolitan instrumental baroque.
A note on this date. The exact day of birth is unrecorded in seventeenth-century Neapolitan archives (c. 1670); we celebrate his verified death anniversary on 19 March. We publish it with the warning rather than leave the page out, and if you can point us to a register or an archive that carries it we will confirm or correct it.
