Death Anniversary: Andrea Bernasconi — January 27, 1784
He died in Munich on 27 January 1784 after three decades as Kapellmeister to the Bavarian electoral court. Born in Verona around 1706, he enjoyed enormous success across northern Italian opera houses before moving to Munich in 1753, where he composed brilliant Italian operas and sacred oratorios, and served as step-father and teacher to the celebrated soprano Antonia Bernasconi.
A note on this date. The exact day of birth is unrecorded in Veronese baptismal records (c. 1706); we celebrate his verified death anniversary on 27 January. We publish it with the warning rather than leave the page out, and if you can point us to a register or an archive that carries it we will confirm or correct it.
