Birth Anniversary: Topazia Alliata — September 1913
Topazia Alliata was born in Palermo in September 1913, daughter of Prince Enrico Alliata di Salaparuta, who made the Corvo wines at Casteldaccia. She studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Palermo, where Renato Guttuso was a fellow student and painted her more than once, and in 1935 she married Fosco Maraini against her family’s wishes and left with him for Japan. Their eldest daughter is the writer Dacia Maraini.
The day is not established. The month and the year are the same in every source we checked; the day (5 September) appears only in the encyclopaedia entry. Until it is confirmed, this anniversary is carried at the first of the month.
