Birth Anniversary: Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies — January 12, 1751
12 January 2027
Ferdinand of Bourbon was born in Naples on 12 January 1751, third son of King Charles, and would end his long reign as Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies. Under him Vanvitelli’s palace at Caserta grew toward completion, and in 1789 the royal silk works at San Leucio received their own laws — a Bourbon experiment in industry and social order that UNESCO lists today alongside the palace. Few births tied a dynasty so tightly to a building site.
