Birth Anniversary: Alfredo d’Andrade — August 26, 1839

He came to Genoa in 1854 to carry on the family trade and stayed for painting instead, studying with Alexandre Calame in Geneva and joining the landscape painters known as the school of Rivara. Architecture won in the end. As the man responsible for the monuments of Piedmont and Liguria he restored the castle of Rivara, worked on Issogne, and designed the Borgo Medievale built for the Turin exposition of 1884.
