Birth Anniversary: Walter Gropius — May 18, 1883
18 May 2027
Walter Gropius was born in Berlin on 18 May 1883. In 1919 he founded the Bauhaus at Weimar, the school that joined art, craft and industry and became the laboratory of modern design. The Fagus factory, the first architecture entirely of glass and steel, and the Bauhaus building at Dessau are his. Having emigrated to the United States, he taught at Harvard and formed generations of architects. The anniversary marks the founder of the school that changed how objects, buildings and cities are designed.
