Birth Anniversary: Otto Wagner — July 13, 1841
Otto Wagner was born in Vienna on 13 July 1841. Architect and town planner, he is the figure who carried Viennese architecture from historicism to modernity: the theorist of «modern architecture», he designed the stations of the Stadtbahn, the Majolikahaus with its floral ceramic skin, and the Postal Savings Bank, where steel, glass and aluminium anticipate the new century. Master and inspiration of the Secession, he marks the passage from Jugendstil ornament to function. The anniversary marks the architect who drew the modern face of Vienna.
