Birth Anniversary: Daniele Fontana — May 15, 1900
On May 15, 1900, Daniele Fontana was born in Milan: a draughtsman, illustrator and painter. His name is tied above all to satirical magazine drawing — Il Travaso delle idee, Bertoldo — but his hand is also recognisable in the advertising graphics of the 1930s, cut in wood.
In our archive, two of his woodcuts from 1939, from the same series: «Per l’autarchia dell’acciaio» (“For Steel Self-Sufficiency”) for Ilva, and «Industrie italiane in linea» (“Italian Industries Falling into Line”) for Piaggio.
He died in Sala Comacina on September 29, 1984.
