Death Anniversary: William Morris — October 3, 1896
03 October 2026
William Morris died in London on 3 October 1896. «He has done the work of ten men», said a doctor explaining his early death: he had been a poet, a weaver, a printer, a publisher and a political activist. His idea — that art and craft should improve everyone’s life — crossed the Channel and fed Art Nouveau, the Werkbund and in part the modern movement itself. The anniversary marks that legacy, from the floral pattern on the wall to the utopia of work that is also pleasure.
