Death Anniversary: Walter Gropius — July 5, 1969
05 July 2027
Walter Gropius died in Boston on 5 July 1969. He had crossed the century as a protagonist: from the Germany of the Bauhaus, closed by the Nazis in 1933, to the America where he spread modern teaching. More than any single building, his legacy is a method — teamwork between art, technique and industry — that underlies contemporary design. The anniversary marks a teacher and an organiser, the father of a school rather than of a style.
