Death Anniversary: Antoni Gaudí — June 10, 1926

On 7 June 1926 Antoni Gaudí was struck by a tram in the centre of Barcelona; he died three days later, on 10 June, at seventy-three. He is buried in the crypt of the Sagrada Família, the basilica still unfinished to which he had given the last decades of his life and which is still being built today. He left an architectural language with no direct heirs, made of natural geometry and structural invention, and it remains the high point of Catalan Modernisme. The anniversary marks the total architect and his devotion to a work built to outlast his own life.
