Battista Pininfarina (Torino, 2 novembre 1893 – Losanna, 3 aprile 1966) morì circa un mese dopo la presentazione del suo ultimo progetto, l’Alfa Romeo 1600 Duetto. Fondatore nel 1930 della Carrozzeria Pinin Farina, autore della Cisitalia 202 esposta al Museum of Modern Art di New York e carrozziere della Ferrari dal 1951, aveva lasciato la guida dell’azienda nel 1961 al figlio Sergio e al genero Renzo Carli, nello stesso anno in cui il presidente Gronchi ne aveva decretato il nuovo cognome. Nel 1963 il Politecnico di Torino gli aveva conferito la laurea honoris causa in architettura.
