Death Anniversary: Pietro Annigoni — October 28, 1988

Thirty-three years earlier his portrait of Elizabeth II had made him the best-known Italian portraitist of his time; Time sent him to John F. Kennedy in 1961 and to John XXIII in 1962. He is buried in the Cimitero delle Porte Sante, on the hill of San Miniato al Monte. Since 2008 a museum in Florence has held around six thousand of his works.
