Japonisme and Art Nouveau: Val Saint-Lambert at 200 (Grand Curtius, Liège)

The Grand Curtius, the City of Liège’s museum of decorative arts, glass, weapons and archaeology on the Meuse quays, is marking the bicentenary of the Val Saint-Lambert crystal works with an exhibition about the moment Belgian glass looked east. Japonisme et Art nouveau brings together around 150 works and follows the influence of Japanese art on the manufactory’s output from the 1880s onwards.

The exhibition covers the aesthetic and technical innovations developed at Val Saint-Lambert during its most productive years, between 1889 and 1914, and the emergence of an Art Nouveau vocabulary there under the direction of the designer Léon Ledru.
