And so we created the garden city: three Molenbeek estates on foot

In the five years after the First World War, three garden cities went up in what was then called New Molenbeek. They were answers to the same question β€” how to house working families decently, and quickly β€” and they answered it differently.

La Fonderie, the Brussels museum of industry and labour, walks all three in an hour and a half. The guide sets the differences against the similarities, then follows what a century has done to them: what the estates were built to solve, and what they are asked to solve now. The walk starts in front of 42 rue Joseph Diongre and ends at the corner of boulevard Mettewie and rue des Béguines.

Guiding is in French.
