Allianz MiCo Convention Center

The Allianz MiCo Convention Center — formally Milano Congressi — is the largest convention and exhibition complex in Europe by indoor floor space, located in the Portello–Fiera district of Milan. Built as part of the broader regeneration of the former Fiera di Milano fairgrounds in the western city, the facility hosts international congresses, trade shows, and corporate events throughout the year. Overview

The Allianz MiCo is a sprawling multipurpose complex on the western edge of central Milan, adjacent to the CityLife residential and commercial development. With more than 60,000 square metres of congress space spread across interconnected halls and pavilions, it ranks among the premier meeting destinations in Europe. The venue is served directly by Milan’s Metro Line 1 and is within walking distance of the CityLife shopping district.

History

The complex occupies part of the historic Fiera di Milano exhibition grounds, which were partially relocated to Rho-Pero in 2005 to free up this central site. The congress wing designed by Fuksas — notable for its dramatic curved roof — opened in conjunction with the wider Portello urban regeneration project. The Allianz naming sponsorship, announced in 2022, followed the model already adopted by the adjacent Allianz Cloud arena, consolidating the area as a branded events district in the city’s western quadrant.

What you see

Visitors entering the complex encounter a sequence of interconnected halls topped by a sweeping steel-and-glass canopy. The main congress hall seats several thousand delegates in tiered auditorium configuration, while flexible exhibition halls accommodate parallel events. Outdoor plazas link the buildings and connect to the CityLife public park, making the site usable as both an indoor venue and an outdoor gathering space in fair weather.

Cultural significance

As the largest congress infrastructure in Italy and one of the largest in Europe, the Allianz MiCo reflects Milan’s sustained investment in its role as an international business and culture capital. The regeneration of the former Fiera grounds is widely cited as one of the most ambitious urban transformation projects in early 21st-century Italy, reshaping a formerly industrial western district into a mixed-use civic hub.

Practical information

The Allianz MiCo is open to the public only during events and congresses. Event programmes and ticket availability vary; check the official website for the current schedule. The complex does not charge general admission; entry is event-specific.
