History
The castle entered the possession of Duke Johann Casimir of Saxe-Coburg in 1588, following the death of the von Sternberg family line. For over two centuries, until 1825, the property remained jointly held by the treasury and the Dukes of Saxe-Meiningen. Control returned to the Dukes of Coburg in 1826, who then maintained the castle as their summer residence until 1945. Prince Andreas of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha—who later established the Ducal Saxe-Coburg and Gotha House Order—was among its notable residents.
