The Boar’s Nest

Boss Hogg’s roadhouse, where Daisy waited tables and the Dukes gathered — a plain brick building outside Covington that is now a church.

At a glance

The Boar’s Nest was the roadhouse at the centre of The Dukes of Hazzard’s social life. The real building, used in the show’s early episodes, stands a couple of miles outside Covington, Georgia — and today it is a church.

The Boar’s Nest in the series

In the show the Boar’s Nest is the bar and roadhouse owned by the scheming Boss Hogg and, despite that, the main gathering place and refuge of the Duke cousins — Bo, Luke, Daisy and Uncle Jesse. Daisy Duke works there as a waitress. Inside are a jukebox, a pool table and a stage for country music; outside, more than one car chase with Sheriff Rosco begins in its dusty lot.

The real building

The exterior was filmed here, a couple of miles outside Covington, during the early Georgia episodes before production moved to California. The low white-brick building still stands beside the road, but its life has changed: the sign now reads Deliverance Christian Tabernacle. The roadhouse has become a church.

Significance

Of all the Hazzard locations, the Boar’s Nest is the one whose second life says the most — a fictional den of scheming and country music turned, in reality, into a place of worship on a quiet Georgia road.

Practical information

  • It is a working church; view it respectfully from the roadside
  • Combine it with the Covington courthouse square and the Duke farm site for a Hazzard driving tour
  • There is nothing to enter — the interest is the building and its story

Getting there

The building stands a couple of miles outside Covington, in Newton County, Georgia — the county that played the fictional Hazzard — on the road leading out of town.
