History
Finnish architect Gerhard Sohlberg designed the synagogue in 1905 as Vyborg remained part of the Grand Duchy of Finland. Construction engineer Viktor Riihelä oversaw modifications to the original design, and the building was erected between 1909 and 1910. On 30 November 1939, the first day of the Winter War, Soviet bombing completely destroyed the structure during aerial raids on the city.
