History
The building rose in 1909 as residential housing. At some point its purpose shifted. It became home to Turku’s city administration, hosting the offices that prepared Council decisions and managed municipal finances and personnel. This civic role lasted decades. It ended at the close of 2011, when the city offices relocated elsewhere. A year earlier, in 2010, the city had already sold the building to a group of private investors. Their stated intention was straightforward: return it to housing.

The facade reflects the Art Nouveau idiom popular across Finland in the early 1900s. Ornamental detailing and organic lines distinguish it from the plainer civic architecture of later decades. Its riverside position along the Aura places it among a cluster of period buildings that define this stretch of the waterfront.
