History
Rao Lakhpatji commissioned the palace circa 1750, entrusting its design to his master craftsman Ram Singh Malam. The project reflected the ruler’s cosmopolitan ambitions. Ram Singh Malam grounded the palace in local building traditions while adorning it with European materials and sensibilities—glass, mirrors, and tiles—creating a rare synthesis of regional and continental design.

The palace comprises two storeys. The ground floor houses the Audience Hall, Pleasure Hall, Hall of Mirrors, and State Apartments; the upper floor contains an antechamber, Darbar (Court) Hall, and Marriage Hall. Glass and mirror work predominate, catching and diffusing light through interior spaces. European decorative tiles and furnishings articulate walls and ceilings.
