Peckforton Castle

Peckforton Castle rises from the northern edge of Peckforton Hills, one mile northwest of the village of Peckforton. Though styled as a medieval stronghold, it is in fact a mid-19th-century creation—a private house commissioned by a wealthy landowner and designed by one of Britain’s most accomplished architects of the period. Today it functions as a hotel and events venue.
History
John Tollemache, a prosperous Cheshire landowner and estate manager who served as a member of parliament, commissioned the castle as a family residence during the mid-19th century. Anthony Salvin, the celebrated architect renowned for his Gothic revival work, designed the structure.
After the Tollemache family used it for occasional gatherings, the house fell largely dormant until 1969, when the 4th Lord Tollemache leased it to American resident George W. Barrett. During the Second World War, the castle had served as a hostel for physically disabled children. The 1970s and 1980s brought a new role: it became a favored location for filming television programmes and motion pictures.
Evelyn Graybill purchased the castle in 1988 and transformed it into a hotel. The Naylor family acquired the property in 2006 and expanded its use to encompass weddings, conferences and corporate events.
