History
A church first occupied this site in Dębno, a Goral village in southern Lesser Poland, as early as the thirteenth century. The present structure was erected in the second half of the fifteenth century, replacing the earlier building. The interior polychrome dates to approximately 1500, representing the oldest such decoration on wood surviving anywhere in Europe. The church is considered one of the oldest structures of its type in Poland, possibly second only to the tower of St. Michael Archangel’s Church in nearby Binarowa.
