History
King Stefan Milutin commissioned the monastery in 1321, positioning it as a major religious and cultural centre. The site remained significant throughout subsequent centuries as a spiritual hub for the Serbian Orthodox community. In 1990, Gračanica was declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance by Kosovo authorities. In 2006, it gained international recognition when UNESCO inscribed it on the World Heritage List as part of the Medieval Monuments in Kosovo designation, an extension of the Visoki Dečani site. The entire World Heritage zone was placed on the List of World Heritage in Danger.
