Villa Conti

CIVITANOVA MARCHE, MARCHE · EARLY 20TH CENTURY

Villa Conti

An Art Nouveau villa in the Marche region housing a smaller Liberty-style residence, shaped by aristocratic taste and dynastic transition across more than a century.

At a glance

Villa Conti is an Art Nouveau complex in Civitanova Marche comprising a main villa and a smaller Liberty villa built within its grounds. The property reflects the refined aesthetic choices of its original owners, the Conti family, and the cultural patronage that characterized early twentieth-century Italian aristocracy.

History

Between 1908 and 1910, Count Adolfo commissioned the construction of a smaller Liberty-style villa within the Villa Conti complex for his eldest son Pier Alberto and Pier Alberto’s young wife Augusta Morroni Mozzo. The project is attributed to Paolo Sironi.

In 1926, on the occasion of Pier Alberto’s second marriage to soprano Francisa Solari, the interior of the Art Nouveau villa underwent renovation. Upon Pier Alberto Conti’s death in 1968, the villa passed to the Salesians, the current owners.

What you see

The complex showcases two distinct but complementary architectural approaches. The main villa exemplifies Art Nouveau principles, while the smaller villa built for the younger generation represents the Liberty style—the Italian variant of Art Nouveau. The 1926 interior renovations introduced updated design elements while preserving the villa’s overall character.

Cultural significance

Villa Conti documents the aesthetic preferences and social structures of early twentieth-century Italian provincial aristocracy. The presence of soprano Francisa Solari as a marriage partner to the family suggests connections to musical and cultural circles of the period. The villa’s passage to the Salesians marks a transition from private patronage to institutional stewardship.
