Mirko Vucetich Is Born — 1898

On 9 January 1898 the artist Mirko Vucetich was born in Bologna. Sculptor, stage designer and architect, he worked across the currents of early-20th-century Italian art — modernism, Futurism and the Novecento. On the Adriatic coast he is remembered above all for the villas of Riccione, and for one in particular: Villa Antolini, built in 1923 on Viale Milano, where he laced Vienna Secession geometry with a Borrominian curve and a private language of stars, hexagons and numbers. Vucetich died in Vicenza on 6 March 1975.
