The Volterra of Stephenie Meyer’s novels — home of the vampire Volturi — was filmed not in Volterra at all but in Montepulciano, the wine town in southern Tuscany, for The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009). Bella’s desperate run to save Edward crosses the Piazza Grande beneath the town’s Renaissance palaces and clock tower.
