In 2015, during restoration work at the sacred area of Porolissum—the site of a Roman auxiliary fort—museum archaeologists uncovered a stone sarcophagus in an unexpected location outside the known cemetery. The limestone vessel contained skeletal remains of a young individual, with carved decoration typical of Roman craftsmanship. Evidence of ancient grave robbing appeared in a hole through the lid, suggesting the burial was disturbed antiquity itself.
