Wunü Mountain rises 821 metres above the Huanren Manchu Autonomous County in Liaoning province. The name translates as “mountain of Five Women” in Chinese. Its Main Peak stretches 1,500 metres long and 300 metres wide, dominating the landscape northwest of the Hun Jiang River.
History
Wunü Mountain is the site of Jolbon, the legendary birthplace of Goguryeo, one of the Three Kingdoms of ancient Korea. The settlement served as the kingdom’s capital from 37 BC to 3 AD, a formative period that established political and cultural foundations lasting centuries. The mountain’s historical importance led to its recognition alongside two other Goguryeo capitals, Gungnae and Hwando, as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
