History
The church was built to replace an earlier Wesleyan Methodist chapel on Hobson Street, erected in 1849, whose land was subsequently developed for Cambridgeshire County Hall. The new Wesley Church was commissioned with a specific purpose: to appeal to young Methodist undergraduates attending the University. Its name honours John Wesley, founder of Methodism. In 1990, the building underwent extensive refurbishment costing £1.3 million, during which a William Hill organ dating from 1844 was installed.
