Villa Tacchi

GAZZO, VENETO · 17TH–19TH CENTURIES
Villa Tacchi

A Venetian country residence transformed into a luxury hotel, Villa Tacchi preserves centuries of architectural heritage within its meticulously restored rooms and grounds.

At a glance

Villa Tacchi is a four-star hotel occupying a historic country estate in Gazzo, near Padua and Vicenza. Built in the late 17th century, the villa and its surrounding property have passed through several noble families while retaining their original architectural character.

History

The villa was constructed at the end of the 1600s by the wealthy Guzzo Beretta family, who held a 400-hectare property in the region. In 1810, the estate—including the villa and the Chapel of Santa Croce—passed to nobleman Antonio Cabianca of Vicenza following a sale by Giovanbattista Muttoni, the Beretta heir.

By 1878, the property had been acquired by the De Tacchi family from Rovereto, who established their residence there, drawn by the villa’s strategic location between two major Venetian cities. The estate changed hands several times thereafter until its conversion to a hotel.

What you see

The villa’s most recent comprehensive restoration occurred in the 1990s, addressing structural waterproofing and roof reinforcement while preserving significant architectural and cultural features. Ground-floor rooms feature Venetian mosaic floors executed by skilled local craftsmen using 15th-century Paduan techniques and authentic materials.

Outbuildings once used for agricultural storage and livestock have been converted into the La Taverna restaurant and the Stemmi function room, maintaining their rustic character while serving contemporary uses.

Cultural significance

Villa Tacchi exemplifies the Venetian tradition of country estates built by urban merchant and noble families. The villa documents continuity across centuries—from early-modern agricultural wealth through Enlightenment-era land sales to 19th-century aristocratic settlement patterns in the Veneto region.
