Villa Sandi Zasso

A monumental 18th-century villa attributed to Venetian architect Domenico Rossi, commanding views across the Valbelluna valley and the Piave river.

Villa Sandi Zasso rises from an elevated setting overlooking the Valbelluna and Piave, its presence unmissable from the state road connecting Belluno to Feltre. The building exemplifies the ambitions of its founders to achieve grandeur and visibility in the landscape.

History

The villa is attributed to Domenico Rossi, the influential Venetian architect. It was approached via a magnificent ascending avenue opening onto the provincial road linking Moldoi and Maras, though the original route is no longer regularly used.

What you see

The southern façade rises above the lateral wings and features a distinctive crab-claw staircase descending from the noble floor into the garden. Trifora windows punctuate both the piano nobile and second storey. Beyond the structure, Mount Pizzocco and the peaks of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park form a theatrical backdrop.
