The working studio of a contemporary Florentine artist engaged in painting, restoration, and collaborative visual design across multiple disciplines.
At a glance
Lapo Gargani maintains an active studio in Galluzzo, on the outskirts of Florence, where he pursues painting, restoration work, and artistic collaborations. Born in Florence in 1972, he has developed a practice spanning decoration, fine art, and set design.
History
Gargani showed artistic inclination from an early age, beginning work in painting decoration and restoration while still young. His formal artistic career launched in 1995. Recognition followed steadily: he received the XXIV Florence Prize in 2006 and the Italy Prize in 2007. In 2009, Exibart magazine named him an “Artist to follow.”
His practice expanded into collaborative territory in the 2010s. In 2013, he designed sets for a jazz concert by Danish musician Jesper Bodilsen at Palazzo Pitti and created the album cover for Bodilsen’s Acou-space Plus (2016). A significant year-long project in 2015 resulted in visual work celebrating musician Vinicio Capossela, featured in Laura Rizzo’s volume Canzoni a Manovella. Since 2016, curator Gisella Guarducci has supported his artistic development.
What you see
The studio functions as both workspace and creative hub. Works in progress, completed paintings, and restoration materials occupy the space where Gargani integrates traditional painting techniques with contemporary artistic exploration and collaborative projects.
Cultural significance
Gargani represents the living tradition of Florentine artistic practice, bridging restoration heritage with contemporary visual expression. His collaborations with musicians and writers demonstrate painting’s role within interdisciplinary creative dialogue. Works reside in public and private collections throughout Italy and internationally.
