History
Governor William Hobson laid St Paul’s foundation stone on 28 July 1841, marking the beginning of organized Anglican worship in the newly established colonial settlement. The first service took place on 7 May 1843.
The parish expanded significantly through the nineteenth century. For more than 40 years, St Paul’s functioned as Auckland’s Cathedral before a dedicated cathedral was established elsewhere. The third and current building represents the congregation’s commitment to a permanent, architecturally distinguished home.
