History
The cathedral was designed by Toowoomba architect James Marks and constructed between 1883 and 1935. Before its construction, the site held St Patrick’s Church School, a combined educational and religious facility. In 1899, the school was relocated to make way for cathedral building work. The displaced school reopened elsewhere and was renamed St Saviour’s School in 1959. St Patrick’s Cathedral gained recognition as a Queensland heritage-listed building on 21 October 1992.
