The parish was originally established and served by Benedictine monks from Ampleforth Abbey. After Ampleforth withdrew in 2012, the church was briefly served by priests from St Benedict’s Church, Warrington. From November 2015, St Mary’s became owned and operated by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP), repositioning it as a shrine church dedicated to the pre-Vatican II form of the Roman Rite.
