Saint-Guidon Metro Station

A Brussels Metro hub in Anderlecht, named for the patron saint of the western district and the Collegiate Church that overlooks the station.

At a glance

Saint-Guidon is a working metro station on Brussels’s line 5, serving the municipality of Anderlecht on the city’s western edge. Its name derives from the aboveground Collegiate Church of St. Peter and St. Guido, dedicated to Saint Guy, Anderlecht’s patron saint.

History

The station opened on 6 October 1982 as part of the Beekkant–Saint-Guidon extension of the former line 1B. It served as the western terminus of the Brussels Metro until the line extended to Veeweyde on 5 July 1985. A subsequent extension westward to Bizet opened on 10 January 1992, later reaching Erasme in 2003. Following the Brussels Metro’s reorganisation on 4 April 2009, the station became part of the reconfigured line 5.

What you see

As a functional modern transit hub, the station reflects the design principles of Brussels’s metro system. The Collegiate Church of St. Peter and St. Guido, visible above ground, provides the station’s namesake and architectural context within the Anderlecht neighbourhood.

Cultural significance

The station anchors public transportation for a historic Brussels district. Its naming honours both the local Collegiate Church and Saint Guy, whose veneration in Anderlecht spans centuries, linking contemporary transit infrastructure to the spiritual heritage of the neighbourhood.
