History
Built between 1892 and 1894, the church was designed by Ludwig Schöne of Vienna and erected on the site of the old Korona Hotel. The structure incorporates medieval and Baroque furnishings salvaged from the earlier St. James church, including two chalices dated 1421 and 1486—evidence of Kőszeg’s long devotional tradition. Wooden altars were crafted in Vienna and the Tirol region, while the Rieger brothers of Austria completed the organ in 1894.

The church features three naves with a transept and polygonal sacrarium, a characteristic hall-church plan of Gothic Revival design. Its tower culminates in two pinnacles and reaches 57 metres. The bell plays a melody from Händel’s oratorio Saul. Stained glass windows, many donated by local families, depict Christ, Mary, Joseph, and Hungarian saints including Stephen, Blessed Gisella, Emeric, Ladislaus, Elizabeth and Margaret. Carved wooden altars and the period organ remain intact.
