Rosolina
Rosolina is a municipality in the Province of Rovigo, Veneto, located approximately 40 kilometres south of Venice and 35 kilometres east of Rovigo, at the southern edge of the Po Delta. The commune encompasses a coastal strip along the northern Adriatic Sea and the island of Rosolina Mare, a seaside resort destination set between the Po di Levante river channel and a protected nature reserve. The surrounding territory forms part of the Po Delta Regional Park, one of the most significant wetland ecosystems in Italy.

Overview
Rosolina is a comune in the Province of Rovigo in the Italian region Veneto, located about 40 kilometres south of Venice and about 35 kilometres east of Rovigo. As of 2004 it had a population of 6,303 and an area of 73.1 square kilometres. The municipality sits within the Po Delta Regional Park — a UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve — and its coastal fraction, Rosolina Mare, is a well-established Adriatic beach resort particularly popular with families from the Veneto and Emilia-Romagna regions.
History
The territory of Rosolina has been inhabited since antiquity, shaped above all by the dynamics of the Po Delta, whose shifting channels have continuously redefined the coastline and the inland waterways. During the Venetian Republic, the area fell under the jurisdiction of the Serenissima, which managed the reclamation and canalization works that allowed agricultural use of the low-lying land. The twentieth century saw the development of beach tourism along the coast, transforming Rosolina Mare from a fishing hamlet into a resort with organized bathing establishments, camping facilities, and holiday accommodation.

Rosolina Mare offers long sandy beaches on the Adriatic, backed by a pineta (coastal pine forest) that provides shade and a natural buffer zone. The inner waterways and lagoons of the Po Delta can be explored by boat or bicycle along marked nature routes of the Regional Park, with opportunities to observe migratory birds including herons, cormorants, and flamingos that inhabit the delta seasonally. The market town of Rosolina inland retains the character of a working Veneto agricultural commune with a regular produce market.
Cultural significance
The Po Delta, within which Rosolina sits, is inscribed as a UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve and is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status as part of the broader Po Delta landscape. The delta represents one of the last large wetland systems in northern Italy, of major importance for biodiversity conservation and as a landscape of profound historical significance for understanding Venice’s relationship with its hinterland and the Adriatic coastline.

Getting there
Rosolina is most conveniently reached by car via the A13 Bologna–Padova motorway, then the SR309 Romea toward Chioggia and south. From Venice, the SS309 coastal road passes through Chioggia and leads directly to Rosolina Mare. Public bus services connect Rosolina to Rovigo and Chioggia. The nearest railway station is Adria, approximately 20 kilometres to the west, with connections to Rovigo and Padova.
