ROME, ITALY · MUNICIPIO IV
Rebibbia

A peripheral quarter of Rome on the via Tiburtina that keeps three improbable things: a Pleistocene deposit, Pasolini's first flat, and a park.

At a glance

Rebibbia lies in the north-east of Rome, in Municipio IV, along the via Tiburtina beyond Ponte Mammolo. Most people know the name from the prison; the quarter itself is a piece of post-war Rome, with housing blocks, workshops and open ground.

Three places make it worth a walk: the Museo di Casal de’ Pazzi, which keeps the Pleistocene deposit found in the neighbourhood; the flat where Pier Paolo Pasolini lived with his mother in the 1950s, now a museum; and the Parco di Aguzzano, the open land the built-up area has not swallowed.

Key facts

  • City: Rome, Lazio, Italy
  • Municipio: IV
  • Coordinates: 41.9257, 12.5729
  • Museo di Casal de’ Pazzi: Viale Egidio Galbani 6
  • Also here: Casa Pasolini, Parco di Aguzzano

History

The Museo di Casal de’ Pazzi marked its first ten years in 2026: it exists to keep in place the Pleistocene deposit found in this part of Rome, and to explain it to the quarter around it.

Casa Pasolini, the first home the writer owned, where he lived with his mother in the 1950s, has been reopened as a museum of its rooms. The Parco di Aguzzano, between Rebibbia and the neighbouring quarters, is farm land and tracks rather than a designed garden.

What you see

The museum is built around the deposit itself, with the Pleistocene layers and fauna explained room by room. Casa Pasolini is a small apartment building of the 1950s, kept as a house rather than as an exhibition. The park is open country at the edge of the city: fields, paths, the remains of farm buildings.
