Overview
The osteria is at Santa Giulia di Porto Tolle, in the outermost delta of the Province of Rovigo. Its kitchen is shaped by that position: fish caught in the morning and cooked in the evening, and meat prepared to local recipes.
History
Osteria Arcadia was once part of Delta Alimentari, the family’s historic shop — a general store that supplied the local fishing community with everything from tobacco to groceries to gifts. The room has since been wholly rebuilt.
The house ties its own history to the mussel farms of the delta: the Pennini family were the first to farm mussels in the Sacca degli Scardovari, in 1969. What began there now employs some five hundred people and yields around 40,000 quintals of shellfish a season.
The osteria took part in the fifth series of 4 Ristoranti, broadcast in 2019, in the second episode: the contest for the best lagoon restaurant of the Venetian Po delta, against La Palafitta, In Marinetta and Canarin. Osteria Arcadia won the episode.
What you see
The room is small and plainly furnished, with dark green walls and touches of twentieth-century design — among them advertisements for foodstuffs of the 1950s, from Olio Sasso to Orco mayonnaise.
