History
The church and its parish took their name from King Oscar II, whose full name was Oscar Fredrik. In 1898, the king visited the church and inscribed his name in its guestbook, a distinction that linked the building to Sweden’s monarchy. Since its inauguration, the church has undergone four major restorations: in 1915, 1940, 1974, and most recently in 2020, when the slate roof was replaced and the interior was thoroughly cleaned.

The design draws on continental European cathedral traditions rather than Nordic Gothic aesthetics. Its 70-metre spire dominates the skyline. Inside, the church bathes visitors in lush greenish tones throughout. A large organ occupies one end of the nave. Originally, the interior could seat 1,685 worshippers, accommodating the growing Olivedal parish of the 1890s.
