Old Synagogue

History
Designed by Mateo Gucci, the Younger, the synagogue’s completion date remains uncertain, with estimates ranging from 1407 to 1570. For centuries it anchored religious, social, and organizational life in Kraków’s Jewish quarter. The Nazis desecrated the building in 1939 during World War II, ending its role as a house of prayer. Since 1958, it has operated as a branch of the Historical Museum of Kraków, allowing its interior to speak to visitors about the community it once served.
