History
Established in 2000 by Towarzystwo Bory Dolnośląskie (The Lower Silesia Deep Woods Appreciation Society), the museum was founded to preserve and study the archaeological and historical record of Szprotawa and the surrounding district. The institution serves the towns of Szprotawa, Małomice, Przemków, and Niegosławice.

The museum occupies a single structure housing integrated collections across multiple disciplines. Permanent exhibitions trace human settlement from the Stone Age through the Iron Age and into modern times, with particular focus on the German and Soviet occupation periods. Notable artifacts include a distinctive 16th-century sword, prehistoric urns, an 18th-century dowry coffer, an anonymous chronicle of the district from the same era, and heavy machine guns recovered from the former Sprottau airfield used during the Second World War. A 15th-century bomber projectile and an 18th-century gravestone of Vogdt round out the displays.
Cultural significance
Beyond exhibition work, the museum conducts ongoing archaeological investigation of major regional sites, including the Silesia Walls—extensive earthen fortifications scattered across the countryside—and the remains of Chrobry, a fortified medieval town. The institution also studies the Flins and Sprottau Castle, and documents the Battle of Primkenau of 1015, a significant medieval conflict. Through this research, the museum contributes substantially to understanding Lower Silesia’s complex settlement history.
