History
The museum was founded in 2006 by Moetaryanto P and Philippe Augier, with architectural design by Popo Danes. It emerged as a venue to document and celebrate the artistic heritage of the broader Asia–Pacific region, with particular emphasis on how international artists engaged with Indonesian and Pacific cultures.

The museum’s spatial arrangement traces artistic dialogues across geography and time. Galleries devoted to Italian, Dutch, and French artists in Indonesia sit alongside rooms celebrating Indochinese, Polynesian, and Pacific Island creators. The collection encompasses paintings, tapa cloth, and works by contemporary masters including Aloi Pilioko and Nicolai Michoutouchkine. A dedicated space permits rotating temporary exhibitions.

Museum Pasifika documents a rarely explored dimension of art history: the encounters between Western and Asian–Pacific artistic traditions. Rather than presenting Indonesia or the Pacific Islands in isolation, it examines how artists from Europe and elsewhere responded to, lived in, and were transformed by these regions—while elevating indigenous and regional voices.
